This is what the Welcome Design project at the Gancedo Madrid flagship looks like

Gancedo regularly open the doors of their iconic flagship on Madrid’s calle Velázquez to renowned designers and interior decorators so that they can transform the space into a genuinely creative laboratory. From María Santos to Burondo and recently the Be Water Home studio, many have left their mark on this initiative which seeks to promote contemporary design in all its facets. On this occasion, the commission fell to the Welcome Design team, led by Mar Vera, to create a space blending crafting heritage with modern technology, unleashing our imagination.

A visual experience

The design presented by Welcome Design for Gancedo stems from an innovative, highly unconventional vision. Visitors are greeted by a deep green and blue-hued rug featuring concentric circles, which creates an all-enveloping, vibrant atmosphere from the very first moment.

The centre of the space is occupied by a double height table, designed by Welcome Design and manufactured by La Ebanistería, lacquered in a glowing shade of orange, which becomes an eye-catching focal point. The environment is complemented by two double height pouffes, upholstered in fabrics from the Formentor collection, a colourful, contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Majorcan “fabrics of flames”.

The blend of straight and round shapes is reflected both in the furniture and also in the decorative details, providing a balance between organic and geometric.

An homage to family heritage and innovation

One of the most significant elements in the project is the mural decorating one of the walls. This unique work was created based on vintage family embroidery pattern books owned by Mar Vera, digitized and vectorized by the Welcome Design team, breathing new life into them. A combination of the vintage with the digital, reflecting the heart of the project: uniting tradition and modernity in a free-flowing dialogue.

The texture of the mural has been enhanced using fabrics from the Formentor collection, adding a tactile dimension which continues throughout the space.

A touch of lightness

To accentuate the natural luminosity streaming in through the picture windows, artistic pieces created by direct printing on perspex, produced by Arte y Tela and based on the same family patterns, have been added. These elements lend a unique texture to the ensemble, which is rounded off with glass vases in matching shades.

Vibrant colours and suspended shapes

One of the most eye-catching characteristics of the design is the use of voiles from the Visillos IX collection, which have been used to cover the square suspended structures as well as the orientally-inspired wooden panels which flank the mural. The combination of light, vibrant textures succeed in conveying a feeling of continuous movement and dynamism, not to mention sustaining a surprisingly fresh aesthetic.

The space is designed to awake the spectator’s imagination and leave the interpretation of its function open to interpretation. It is not simply a showroom, but rather an immersive environment where each element tells a story. According to Mar Vera: “We wanted to make something different which would represent both Gancedo and the studio, while at the same time paying homage to the family history underpinning the embroidery pattern books. It has been a lovely way to fuse traditional techniques with the new digital technologies.”

Welcome Design is an interior design studio based in Madrid, an acknowledged creator of spaces that connect emotionally with their users. With over 15 years of experience in interior and graphic design, they have developed their own products including wallpaper catalogues, acoustic panels and furniture.

The team is led by the interior designer Mar Vera, and Víctor Camacho, an expert in digital printing and production on any type of base. Accompanying them, Sara de La Moneda, with a degree in product design and events coordinator at “Welcome Room”. Because as well as developing interior design, product and communications projects for brands in the sector, they organise events including presentations, talks and debates, always revolving around design.

The project for Gancedo not only reflects the creativity and innovation of Welcome Design, but also their commitment to history and tradition, which Mar Vera carries in her DNA. The combination of daring shapes, vibrant colours, contemporary materials and family embroidery patterns culminates in a space so much more than simply an interior design exhibition: it is a living homage to craftsmanship, memory and modernity.

Thanks to initiatives such as this, Gancedo reaffirm their role as a benchmark in the world of design, proffering their space so that creative minds and designers may express their vision without any limitations.
