Andina & Tapia at the Gancedo flagship

This time it has fallen to the interior design studio formed by Mónica Andina and Fernando Tapia to design this unique space. Lovers of design, beauty and traditional crafts, this interior design duo founded the Andina & Tapia studio in 2005, and together they have created a team of professionals who are thrilled by every type of creative challenge: from refurbishments and decorating in residential and commercial ambits to projects for fleeting spaces such as, in this case, the environment designed for Gancedo. 

Colour and mixture of styles

“We like colour, mixing styles in which each object is beautiful in itself and looks at home. We work with natural materials such as wood, stone, linen, iron…so that their noble essence is truly reflected. We place great importance on craftsmanship, making the most of experimenting with crafts from which we learn something new every day,” the interior designers tell us. And you only have to see the space they have decorated at Velázquez 38 where the values of the studio are perfectly displayed. Andina & Tapia have designed a cool, colourful environment, featuring only a few perfectly chosen pieces, in what could be an entrance hall or a dining room.   

Backdrop

To frame the setting, the studio selected the Long Trellis Blue Green fabric from the new Gancedo Fronda collection, which, curtain-like, covers the walls and creates the perfect background to complement the decorating scheme. With its geometrical design and green and blue tones on a white background, the fabric not only lends visual lavishness to the whole, but also helps create a cool, natural, very summery feel. A look which is enhanced by the sisal rug covering the floor. In addition, to break the uniformity, a limited-edition rug, edited in 1996 based on Picasso etchings, has been hung as if it were a painting, becoming the focal point of the room. 

Most special pieces

Once the background was established, the interior designers mixed and matched furniture and accessories in different styles which meld thanks to the drapery. In the centre of the space, a most special table steals the show. It is a design by Andina & Tapia, in conjunction with the artist Iván Cantos. A table/sculpture, with a coating of sustainable microcement and two supports made from pine trunks rescued from trees felled by Storm Philomena. On the table proudly stands a sculpture by Iván Cantos.  

Classic with creative touches

In the space we also find classical elements and proportions that the interior designers have combined with more daring strokes reducing restraint and adding character and personality. Thus, in one corner of the space they have placed a pair of busts, designed by Andina & Tapia, on mirrored pedestals which counteract their classicism, along with linen fabrics from the Gancedo Tramuntana collection, custom-made in mustard and coral shades. A repurposed chair completes the décor and stands out in this most special space: cool, natural and most elegant.
