“Post party”, the Gancedo showroom space with the Codoo Studio stamp

“Post Party” is a scenario frozen in time just after it has ended. There are glasses on the floor, trailing cables, muted lighting and objects still oozing a party atmosphere. As opposed to depicting a real space, Codoo have created an emotionally realistic image of what’s left over when the hubbub dies down: calm after chaos, beauty in the run-of-the-mill. It’s a celebration of hearth and home in all its forms and of the act of habitation as something free, many-faceted and profoundly human.

A sofa as protagonist

The heart of the space features a modular sofa, the structure based on the reproduction of a storage bag, upholstered using Gancedo’s back catalogue “Tulipans” fabric, an original 70s pattern. This gesture, directly inspired by a 1998 Matali Crasset piece, turns a commonplace, practical item into a central design element. It’s a subtle – and very effective – way of alluding to movement, transition, change…concepts that criss-cross any type of coexistence. Household items take on the leading role, and informality becomes design.

Gingham, memory and textures

The whole space is clothed in black and white gingham, a fabric bound up with collective memory, with tradition, with the authentic Lavapiés. This pattern, combined with reedited fabrics from the 70s –Mari Ángeles González originals retrieved by Gancedo – creates an environment which blends back catalogue, texture and emotion. The choice of textile is not only aesthetic: it alludes to past and present, to a legacy that mutates and readjusts without any loss of character.

Details that speak to us

In “Post Party” everything has a raison d’être, although it may not be obvious. There are glasses on the floor, trailing cables, a sliced watermelon on the table. The silvery fringing hanging from the ceiling recalls the garlands that cling on stubbornly after a fair. And the framed red carnation hanging on one of the walls is no mere ornament: it’s a nod to Madrid at its most authentic, to its local fiestas and the outgoing, convivial character of the city. It's a sitting room which hasn’t been completely tidied up, but which still conveys warmth and a sense of belonging.

Codoo Studio have designed a scenario with a storyline. They have managed to transpose the essence of Gancedo – its history, link with Madrid, and textile character – into an installation that is better understood through the senses than through words. Warm lighting, the use of colour and the materials make the scenario feel genuine, intimate and totally liveable.

Those behind it

Codoo Studio is a design and interior design studio based in Madrid, founded in 2019 by the architects José David Costa and Sergio Ortiz. Their style combines the emotional with the conceptual, always featuring a very marked 60s and 70s aesthetic, colour and theatricality. They are specialists in creating spaces which are not only seen but felt. In this project for Gancedo, they have transformed a corner of the showroom into an open story, where the party’s over, but the emotion remains. A space intended to be meaningful rather than perfect.
