This is the environment that Burondo has designed in the Gancedo flagship store

The Burondo architects, Isabel Blanco and Beatriz Blanco, have been tasked with designing the corner of the Gancedo flagship store which the textile firm has made available as a creative space to interior decor, design and architecture studios. In this case, Burondo has created a corner for reflection and calm, a serene minimalist place, where the aim is to create a sensory experience through the use of light, fabrics and textures. The main aim is to create a relaxed environment which invites one to stop and find a momentary break amidst the hectic pace of life which characterises our generation.

Warm tones and careful lighting

In the space, both the use of light and that of fabrics and textures play a crucial part. The architects have opted for the strategic use of different sources of light to create a gentle, appealing atmosphere. As for the fabrics, materials which are soft to the touch such as organic or natural fabrics dominate the environment, inviting us to touch and experience them. Textile elements which mix and match with plain, minimalist surfaces to create a balanced contrast.

Among the elements of the project, linen textured wallpaper stands out, framing the entire space. It provides a tactile feel and adds warmth to the surroundings. In search of the harmony and serenity inherent to the studio’s essence, raw earthy colours and beige take centre stage, neutral and natural shades contributing to the creation of a peaceful, welcoming environment.

A space where calmness reigns

Burondo puts forward a space that will act as a refuge where we can escape from our hectic daily lives. Through the use of tactile materials, serene colours and natural elements, the architects have managed to create a serene, harmonious atmosphere which invites us to reflect and reconnect with the essential.

The floor has been decorated with the wool Moko rug in ecru, underlining the idea of returning to our roots and becoming aware of an unhurried reality. The choice of natural materials such as wool and linen, along with the incorporation of Beret linen curtains from the Ventus collection and Toba cushions from the Ethnic collection, emphasise love of craftsmanship and nature.

An outstanding aspect is the importance granted to antiquarian books. Instead of simply being decorative pieces, they have become a way of channelling the meaning of reflection. These books represent the connection with knowledge and wisdom accumulated over the years, inviting the occupants of the space to bury themselves in reading and contemplation.

Just a few well-chosen pieces of furniture

To decorate such a cosy, intimate corner, the Burondo team combined classic style pieces such as the wooden rocking-chair at the end of the bed and the bedside table which can serve as an occasional table, with contemporary designs, such as the tubular aluminium chairs and the standard lamp which illuminates the chill-out zone. What’s more, they’ve included a screen upholstered in a geometric patterned fabric which not only serves as a headboard, but which also envelops the environment, endowing it with warmth and extra comfort.

Burondo have interpreted the primal essence of Gancedo, giving the company back its original focus on the art of working the fabric on manual looms. This implies employing expert hands and developing textiles at a leisurely pace, ensuring that every stitch is made following the standards of flawless manufacturing. This focus on meticulous craftsmanship is reflected in the textile details of the space, which add texture and warmth to the surroundings.

The result is a design which combines the historic, craftsmanship inheritance with contemporary aesthetics. An environment where ancient and modern elements co-exist in harmony, and where reflection and appreciation for beauty are interwoven.
